Expert Tooth Extraction Services in Southwest Houston for Pain Relief and Care

Precision & Comfort for Every Houston Patient

If you have wisdom teeth or a tooth or that is causing pain, you may be looking for a dentist that is proficient at tooth extractions.

Dr. David Yu has performed thousands of tooth extractions over the past 20 years.  Most procedures can be done in our office under local anesthesia.  Our staff is trained to provide you with a comfortable and virtually pain-free experience.  We have TVs in every room to keep you entertained through the entire procedure.

Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted, but early detection of impacted or infected wisdom teeth can prevent problems.  When wisdom teeth cause pain and swelling, you may be experiencing pericornitis (inflammation of the gum tissue surrounding a tooth).

If you are in pain and in need of a tooth extraction, call our office today.

FAQs

Q: Will my extraction hurt?
A: We use effective anesthesia and optional sedation to ensure a virtually painless experience.

Q: How long is the recovery?
A: Most patients recover in 3–7 days. Following our aftercare instructions helps speed healing.

Q: Do I need someone to drive me home?
A: If you choose sedation, we recommend arranging a ride home. For local anesthesia only, you can usually drive yourself.

Q: What symptoms mean I may need a tooth extracted?
A: Common signs include severe tooth pain, swelling, gum infection, broken or decayed teeth that can’t be restored, and impacted wisdom teeth. During your exam, Dr. Yu will determine whether extraction or another treatment is best.

Q: Can I go back to work or school after my extraction?
A: Most patients can resume light activity the next day. If your extraction was complex—or involved impacted wisdom teeth—you may want to plan for 1–2 days of rest. We’ll give you personalized guidelines based on your procedure.

Q: What can I eat after the procedure?
A: Stick to soft foods for the first 24–48 hours—such as yogurt, smoothies, mashed potatoes, and soup. Avoid straws, hot liquids, and crunchy foods to protect the healing area and prevent dry socket.

Q: What is a dry socket and how can I avoid it?
A: A dry socket occurs when the protective blood clot becomes dislodged, exposing the bone. You can prevent this by avoiding smoking, straws, vigorous rinsing, and hard foods for several days. Following our aftercare instructions significantly reduces your risk.
